Requirements for Becoming a Real Estate Agent

Enroll in Classes

To sell real estate in Pennsylvania, you must possess a license issued by the State. The requirements for licensing in Pennsylvania are as follows:

  1. You must be at least 18 years of age.

  2. You must complete the required educational course work, which consists of two courses of thirty hours each.

    • Real Estate Fundamentals - A real estate theory and terminology course, including Pennsylvania Real Estate Law.

    • Real Estate Practice - An application course in which you follow a transaction from its beginning to end.

  3. You must pass a multiple choice test covering real estate theory and practice, and Pennsylvania law. In order to pass you must score 75% or higher.

An independent testing company administers the Pennsylvania license exam. Reservations are necessary and you must present your transcript of completed course work before being admitted to the test. There is a fee for this exam.

At Prudential Preferred Realty we have your future in mind, even before you join us! That’s why we are the only Pittsburgh real estate firm to offer a cram course that boasts one of the highest pass rates in the Pittsburgh area. So be sure to watch our schedule and take our real estate licensing Cram Course before you take the state test.

Take Cram Course
The license exam consists of two parts and the questions are multiple choice:

  1. Uniform Portion - 80 to 95 questions covering the general principals of real estate.

  2. State Portion - 30 to 40 questions covering Pennsylvania State Law, Rules and Regulations, which govern the practice of real estate and Fair Housing Laws.
After passing the exam, you must complete the license application, have it signed by a sponsoring broker such as Prudential Preferred Realty, submit your transcript and pay the application fee for processing.

We recommend Real Estate Educators School which has one of the highest average pass rates.
